Delhi to Kainchi Dham – Route Overview

Best Route: Delhi → Hapur → Gajraula → Moradabad → Rampur → Rudrapur → Kathgodam → Bhowali → Kainchi Dham

This route runs through the Terai plains of UP into the Kumaon foothills of Uttarakhand, ending at the famous Neem Karoli Baba Ashram at Kainchi Dham.

Stop-by-Stop Itinerary

1. Delhi to Gajraula (115 km, 2 hrs)

First major halt. Several highway dhabas here for an early breakfast — parathas, poha, chai.

2. Gajraula to Moradabad (45 km, 1 hr)

Moradabad is known for its biryani and kebabs — a popular lunch stop if you start late morning.

Sightseeing: Not a tourist stop, mainly a food/refuel halt.

3. Moradabad to Rampur (30 km, 45 min)

Rampur has a few good dhabas and is known for Rampuri cuisine (korma, biryani) if you want a heavier meal.

4. Rampur to Rudrapur (75 km, 1.5–2 hrs)

Entry point into Uttarakhand. Good highway restaurants here — a popular lunch/snack stop for Delhi-Nainital traffic.

Roadside stalls also sell local Kumaoni snacks once you're closer to the hills.

5. Rudrapur to Kathgodam (30 km, 45 min)

Kathgodam is the last major town before the climb into the hills (and the nearest railhead to Nainital).

Good place for a final proper meal and fuel/restroom stop before winding hill roads begin.

6. Kathgodam to Bhowali (25 km, 1 hr — hill roads, slower)

Bhowali is famous for its fruit market — stock up on fresh apples, peaches, plums, and apricots depending on season.

Several small eateries here serve hot Maggi, pakoras, and chai — a favorite stop for hill-bound travelers.

7. Bhowali to Kainchi Dham (9 km, 20–25 min)

Final stretch. The Neem Karoli Baba Ashram is right on the roadside, set along a small stream — peaceful and easy to combine with nearby sightseeing.

Since Kainchi Dham itself is a short visit (ashram + stream walk), most travelers combine it with nearby spots:

Bhimtal Lake (10 km) – boating, island aquarium

Naukuchiatal (15 km) – quieter lake, nine-cornered

Sattal (20 km) – seven interconnected lakes, good for birdwatching

Bhowali (9 km) – fruit market, viewpoints

Nainital (17 km) – mall road, lake, ropeway — popular extension if doing a 2-day trip

Mukteshwar (25 km) – Himalayan viewpoints, temple, cafes (good for those wanting more offbeat sightseeing)
